The Coldest Winter Ever
By Sister Souljah
FICTION & LITERATURE
Released: April 1, 1999
In the midst of a bitter cold winter day and horrible snow storm in Brooklyn, New York a baby girl was born to a young teenage mother "Winter Santiago". She was the daughter of the most powerful drug dealer in Brooklyn at the time. She lived a very luxurious life for most of her younger childhood. She was very spoiled by her father; used to getting whatever she wanted from him. Living the life as a daughter of a drug dealer, Winter saw plenty that she should not have. By the time she turned 12 years old she was very street wise. She started using her body and exchanging sexual acts to get even more things that she wanted. Because she was so spoiled nothing was ever enough. The apple didn't fall far from the tree because her father felt his family was too good to live in Brooklyn. He moved them to a better neighborhood thinking his business was going to still thrive without him right there in the "hood" to monitor what was going on with his money and product. Needless to say he lost control of his area, wife was shot in the face and killed and he was set up and eventually arrested. Winter was now alone and on her own. As the story goes on, Winter continues living the fast life doing what she had to do to get what she wanted. Her life got worse before it got better.
The book moves very quickly. Its makes it hard to put down. The author captures the urban hip hop culture so eloquently with the use of the Ebonics/slang language and the way she keeps you interested as the story climbs until it reaches the climax. It keeps you intrigued at all times.
